World Blood Donor Day

World blood donor day was celebrated on June 15th 2019. The event serves to thank voluntary paid blood donors for their life saving gifts of blood & also raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations.

This event was celebrated by Mrs. Swapnali Hooli to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure the quality, safety & availability of blood for patients in need.

Karl Landsteiner, (born June 14, 1868), Austrian American immunologist and pathologist who received the 1930 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the major blood groups and the development of the ABO system of blood.

Ms. Happy Singh from XII Science spoke on national blood transfusion council (NBTC), details about blood human resource, near by blood banks, camp schedule, registration for blood donation etc.

Mrs.Swapnali Hooli gave information about who can donate blood- most people can donate blood if they are in good health, to fulfil in order to become a blood donor, age between 18 to 65, weight at least 50 kg. You can not donate if you have a cold, flue, sore throat, stomach bug, TB, HIV, any other infection and disease. If you have recently had a tattoo or body piercing you can not donate for 6 months from the date of the procedure. The average life span for RBC is 120 days, WBC 3-4 days. The old and worn out RBC get destroyed in liver and spleen. Teacher had given information about blood report of pathology, blood count, normal value, Hb etc.

Coordinator of Junior college Mrs. Suchita Gharat gave information on blood donation, encouraged students to create awareness about blood donation and its importance of blood donation. She even spoke that there is no alternative for blood.
