Report on Shlok Recitation Competition on occasion of Guru Purnima

“A Guru is the lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance.” – Swami Vivekananda.

On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, there was a Shlok Recitation Competition conducted on 12th July,2025  at St. John Junior College to honor the invaluable role of Gurus (teachers) in shaping our lives and imparting wisdom. The program was organised by Ms. Rachna Kansara.

The event commenced with a brief introduction about the significance of Guru Purnima, which is celebrated in reverence to Maharshi Vyasa. A choir group melodiously sung a devotional song  along with  playing a Dholki giving a musical essence. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual energy and devotion as students gathered to pay tribute to their teachers through the divine medium of Sanskrit shlokas.

Participants from  Grade XII (Arts) recited carefully chosen shlokas from ancient texts like the Bhagavad Gita, Vedas, and Upanishads, each highlighting the importance of knowledge, humility, and devotion to the guru. The event was judged by Ms. Savita Gupta and Ms. Harsha Gawad who evaluated the participants based on pronunciation, clarity, fluency and overall presentation.

The winners of Shlok Recitation Competition are as follows:
